Exchange Wk19&20 – Boston and Salem (MA)

On the 29th of December to the 1st of January we spent a few days in Boston, where we also joined our Australian neighbours who were coming down from visiting their family in Canada. Then, we went down to Salem (MA) from the 1st of January to the 3rd of January.

One of the cool things in Boston is that they have what is called the Boston freedom trail. This is a 4km red-bricked path which takes you through the tourist sights of Boston. Very cool!

On New Year’s Eve the family head to watch the Boston Bruins play the Buffalo Sabres. The atmosphere in the stadium was mesmerising. I had so much fun! Ice hockey is now one of my favourite sports to watch!

We also spent some time in Salem. Salem is infamous for the witch trials of 1692, where 19 people were executed for being condemned for witchcraft. It has been the setting for pop culture, as well as the famous play the Crucible. We did a walking tour here where we learnt all about what happened in Salem during the 17th century. Despite the atrocities that occurred, Salem now embraces the witch trials as a major source of their tourism. Even the police cars have witches flying on a broomstick!
